Australian 4WD Council Track Classification

Port Hunter 4x4 Club recommends that recovery gear be carried on every 4WD trip.

• Green Suitable for all wheel drives without low range and fitted with highway tyres.  
  
  
• Blue Low range capability may be necessary at times. Suitable for highway tyres.  
  
  
• Black Low range capability will often be necessary. Ground clearance should be adequate. Vehicle should be fitted with all terrain tyres and some driver training is advised.  
  
  
• Red Frequent use of low range capability and high ground clearance will be necessary. Vehicles should be fitted with high traction tyres and driver should be trained and experienced. Recovery equipment should be carried.

Note 
These grades apply to dry conditions only, should the track or weather be wet, the classification should move up 1 grade.
